SUMMARY:Fire and Ice Cream: Community Wildfire Education
DESCRIPTION:The Town of Mountain Village Police Department\, San Miguel County Office of Emergency Management and Telluride Fire Protection District present Fire and Ice Cream\, an afternoon of wildfire education in Mountain Village on Sunday\, June 14. \nThe event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and will feature free ice cream\, live music and informational tables from regional partners. \nWildfire danger is at the forefront of our regional agencies’ and residents’ minds as the area enters a dry summer season\, and this event is an opportunity to learn about different aspects of wildfire preparedness\, safety and prevention. \nIn addition to the more serious topic of wildfire\, the event will also feature free ice cream\, live music and a fire truck and police squad car for kids to explore. \nThe following partners will be set up to provide the community with information in Heritage Plaza: Mountain Village Police Department\, Mountain Village Forestry Department\, Telluride Fire Protection District\, San Miguel Sheriff’s Office and Office of Emergency Management\, Sheep Mountain Alliance\, Eco Action Partners and Alpine Water Resources. \nTopics will include fire mitigation around the home (defensible space and cedar shake roof replacement)\, preparing your household for potential evacuation\, signing up for emergency notifications\, preventing wildfire while recreating\, the role wetlands play in wildfire mitigation and much more. \n“It is a personal responsibility to take mitigation action to protect your property\,” said TFPD District Chief John Bennett. “It’s also a shared responsibility\, and we all play a role in creating fire-adapted communities. Your efforts not only help to protect your home but also help firefighters with access and personnel safety and contribute to the overall resilience of your neighborhood.” \nThe event is free and open to the public. Residents\, second homeowners and visitors are encouraged to attend. \n“Whether you live in Mountain Village or not\, we want to provide the community with a wildfire education opportunity while also making it engaging since the threat of wildfire is a heavy topic\,” said Mountain Village Communications Manager Kathrine Warren. \n“Participants who visit all of our booths during the event will be entered to win our raffle with some great prizes\,” Warren added. “Thank you to TMVOA and our businesses for contributing to the prizes!” \nFor more information\, please visit bit.ly/MVFireIce.
