SUMMARY:Telluride Historical Museum - Moments That Made US: San Miguel Stories - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Telluride Historical Museum Announces \n“Moments That Made US: San Miguel Stories”\, \nNew 2026-2027 Annual Exhibition for \nAmerica 250/Colorado 150 Commemoration \n  \nTelluride\, Colorado\, June 1\, 2026 — Telluride Historical Museum announces its upcoming 2026-2027 annual exhibit\, Moments That Made US: San Miguel Stories\, a special exhibition during the America 250/Colorado 150 commemoration that explores how generations of Americans in San Miguel County and beyond have given meaning to the ideals set out in the Declaration of Independence. The exhibition looks back across centuries and highlights both challenging and celebratory times\, while exploring five themes drawn directly from the Declaration of Independence: Created Equal; Life\, Liberty\, and the Pursuit of Happiness; Free and Independent States; Consent of the Governed; and We Mutually Pledge. The featured moments weave together multiple perspectives from some of San Miguel County’s most significant stories alongside defining moments from United States history. By examining national ideals through the lens of one community\, the exhibition connects local experiences to the broader American story. Together\, these moments remind us that history was never inevitable\, but shaped at every turn by the people who lived it. \n  \nThe exhibition adapts the acclaimed Moments That Made US exhibition created by History Colorado (currently on view at the History Colorado Center in Denver) into a format that allows host venues to customize it for their audiences and connect local history to the nation’s story. \n  \n“We were looking for a meaningful way to commemorate the country’s 250th anniversary while also placing our history into the broader context of American History\,”  Executive Director Kiernan Lannon said. “Thankfully\, History Colorado made it easier for us through this adaptable exhibit.  I think visitors will gain a better understanding of just how influential the Declaration of Independence was to the development of both the country as a whole as well as to the story of local communities like San Miguel County.  It continues to have relevance generations after our Founding Fathers authored it.” \n  \nMoments That Made US will be on view at the Telluride Historical Museum from June 11\, 2026 – April 3\, 2027. Join us for an opening reception\, free and open to the public\, on June 11\, from 5 – 8pm.

SUMMARY:The Creative Exchange at Telluride Arts HQ
DESCRIPTION:The Creative Exchange is a brand-new monthly series by Telluride Arts designed for the artists and creatives who call Telluride home. It’s a space where emerging and established artists gather to share the knowledge\, skills\, and stories that fuel their work. Think of it as an open source model for creativity—where we learn from each other\, swap ideas\, and help strengthen one another’s practice. Each session is hosted by local artists and creative leaders who bring their own perspectives\, techniques\, and creative journeys into the room. Topics may span everything from the business of art and professional development\, to creative process\, storytelling\, collaboration\, and the philosophical underpinnings of making art. \nWhether you’re a full-time working artist\, an educator\, a student\, a maker\, or simply someone curious about creative expression\, the Creative Exchange is open to you. Come learn\, share\, and grow with the community that makes Telluride’s creative identity so vibrant.

SUMMARY:Mass Movement
DESCRIPTION:Over the past 10 years\, Mass Movement has taken place as an annual celebration of dance in our small mountain town. We bring together local dancers and choreographers and also invite visiting choreographers and dancers from the region. Mass Movement is a celebration to find what moves you\, whether you are on stage performing or participating as an audience member. This performance has been a platform and catalyst for the growth of the dance community here in Telluride. TDC and Palm Arts are excited to include Palm Arts Dance as an additional partnership this year and provide programming that invites local youth to participate in an intergenerational performance experience.

SUMMARY:Fire and Ice Cream: Community Wildfire Education
DESCRIPTION:The Town of Mountain Village Police Department\, San Miguel County Office of Emergency Management and Telluride Fire Protection District present Fire and Ice Cream\, an afternoon of wildfire education in Mountain Village on Sunday\, June 14. \nThe event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and will feature free ice cream\, live music and informational tables from regional partners. \nWildfire danger is at the forefront of our regional agencies’ and residents’ minds as the area enters a dry summer season\, and this event is an opportunity to learn about different aspects of wildfire preparedness\, safety and prevention. \nIn addition to the more serious topic of wildfire\, the event will also feature free ice cream\, live music and a fire truck and police squad car for kids to explore. \nThe following partners will be set up to provide the community with information in Heritage Plaza: Mountain Village Police Department\, Mountain Village Forestry Department\, Telluride Fire Protection District\, San Miguel Sheriff’s Office and Office of Emergency Management\, Sheep Mountain Alliance\, Eco Action Partners and Alpine Water Resources. \nTopics will include fire mitigation around the home (defensible space and cedar shake roof replacement)\, preparing your household for potential evacuation\, signing up for emergency notifications\, preventing wildfire while recreating\, the role wetlands play in wildfire mitigation and much more. \n“It is a personal responsibility to take mitigation action to protect your property\,” said TFPD District Chief John Bennett. “It’s also a shared responsibility\, and we all play a role in creating fire-adapted communities. Your efforts not only help to protect your home but also help firefighters with access and personnel safety and contribute to the overall resilience of your neighborhood.” \nThe event is free and open to the public. Residents\, second homeowners and visitors are encouraged to attend. \n“Whether you live in Mountain Village or not\, we want to provide the community with a wildfire education opportunity while also making it engaging since the threat of wildfire is a heavy topic\,” said Mountain Village Communications Manager Kathrine Warren. \n“Participants who visit all of our booths during the event will be entered to win our raffle with some great prizes\,” Warren added. “Thank you to TMVOA and our businesses for contributing to the prizes!” \nFor more information\, please visit bit.ly/MVFireIce.
