If music be the food of love, play on. Telluride Chamber Music understood the brief. This month, it\u2019s kicking off its summer MusicFest, Summer Soir\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMusicFest is quite a unique thing. It\u2019s sort of a ten-day celebration of music and chamber music in town,\u201d said Claire Beard, executive director of Telluride Chamber Music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt takes place in this beautiful private home, that\u2019s actually a restored barn that overlooks Sunshine Mountain. It\u2019s really intimate,\u201d added Beard. \u201cWe do three main concerts there and each concert also includes a themed reception afterwards with themed food. It\u2019s a really fun event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The festival will begin with a frame drum workshop, hosted by Yousif Sheronick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe\u2019s a world-renowned percussionist. Drums will be included. It will be in a circle and he\u2019ll be teaching people drum strokes. It\u2019s actually called Rhythm of the Healing Arts<\/em>, because a lot of people use drum rhythm as a wellness tool,\u201d noted Beard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Following the workshop will be three concerts, each with a geographical theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe first one is all about a celebration of German music,\u201d explained Beard. \u201cThere\u2019s a really rich history of German music. Beautiful composers like Brahms and Schumann, and then they also always mix it up with some contemporary things as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The second concert will focus on music from South America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThat\u2019s going to be a nice fiery program that has a lot of fun stuff in it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Finally, the last concert will highlight music from Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere\u2019s so much history of classical music from Italy, which is beautiful. But it also includes some surprises,\u201d said Beard. \u201cIt finishes with a quintet that\u2019s an arrangement of Frank Sinatra tunes. So, it really mixes the traditional classical with some other things thrown in. So, it\u2019s some really fun programs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Beard noted chamber music is for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt really connects to the human experience. It\u2019s a really stripped-down version of music, there\u2019s no microphones or anything like that. It\u2019s stood the test of time because it\u2019s been a way that people connect with human emotion and have that release,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Plus, she said, it\u2019s a good time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere\u2019s nothing hoity-toity about it. You don\u2019t have to be in your fanciest clothes,\u201d shared Beard. \u201cCome, enjoy some gorgeous music, a beautiful view, you get a glass of wine thrown in. There\u2019s nothing not to love.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Summer Soir\u00e9es series will kick off on Thursday, June 26, with a Frame Drum Workshop at the Sheridan Opera House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Concerts will take place on Sunday, June 29; Wednesday, July 2; and Sunday, July 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n There will also be free events on Tuesday, July 1, including a Family Concert at the library and a Local Artists Night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tickets are available at telluridechambermusic.org.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Telluride Chamber Music’s Summer Soir\u00e9es return with ten days of intimate performances.
