SUMMARY:Equal Pay Bake Sale
DESCRIPTION:Equal pay for equal work should be a no-brainer. But even in 2026\, pay inequity persists.\nOn average\, women working full time in the United States earn about 82 cents for every dollar earned by a man. And the gap is even wider for women of color\, with Black\, Latina\, and Native women earning significantly less compared to white men.\nBeyond being unequal and unjust\, pay inequity impacts women and families every single day. Nearly half of working women are primary or co-breadwinners in their households. When women are paid less\, families have less.\nPay inequity can also limit a woman’s ability to leave an unsafe or abusive situation if she cannot financially support herself or her children.\nWomen hold nearly two-thirds of the nation’s student debt\, and earning less makes it harder to pay that debt down.\nAnd over a lifetime\, lower wages mean less saved for retirement and reduced Social Security benefits.\nOn Thursday\, March 6\, 2026\, in celebration of International Women’s Day\, the Progressive Women’s Caucus will bring attention to pay inequity with an Equal Pay Bake Sale.\nThe bake sale will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Community Table at Pine and Colorado. Items will be sold to reflect current wage inequities.\nAll funds raised will support the first-ever PWC Leadership Scholarship for a graduating senior who represents the mission and values of the Progressive Women’s Caucus.\nStop by\, learn more\, and enjoy something sweet for a powerful cause.\nIf you would like to contribute baked goods or get more information\, please call 970-708-0524 or visit the Progressive Women’s Caucus Facebook page.
