Telluride Rotary Club invites the public to a screening of a 30-minute documentary film about the Colorado River crisis at its meeting this Wednesday, January 15th, at 12 (noon) in the Wilkinson Public Library’s Program Room. The film gives a concise overview of the history and complexity of the Colorado River’s environmental strain, and offers suggestions for how to work on solving the ongoing problem. Join the Telluride Mountain Club and PI Avy Fund for an informative Backcountry Chat on Thursday, January 16th, from 6–8 p.m. at the Wilkinson Public Library. This free event begins with a brief "state of the snowpack" update, followed by a hands-on tour planning workshop led by Friends of the San Juans. The session will focus on implementing map-reading skills and navigation apps to improve confidence in planning backcountry ski tours. San Miguel County Search and Rescue will also provide essential tips on preparedness for backcountry adventures and explain what to expect during emergency assistance situations.
